Local Community Member Donates Year's Worth of Rent to Help the 'Hidden Homeless'

In the face of the often-hidden issue of rural homelessness, acts of kindness and generosity can make all the difference in the world. Don Shifflet, a local resident, has stepped up to make a significant contribution in the fight against rural homelessness.

Shifflet has donated an entire year's worth of rent payments to DeSoto Cares Homeless Services, a nonprofit organization dedicated to seeking solutions and coordinating services for the homeless. This incredible act of kindness will help the organization to provide shelter and housing for those in need, especially those who are struggling with rural homelessness.

Don Shifflet donates 12 months of rent payments.

Advocates and researchers have long pointed out that rural homelessness is a difficult issue to tackle. The so-called "hidden homeless" are often not visible in the same way as urban homeless populations, making it harder for people to get the help they need. Those experiencing rural homelessness may be living in remote areas, sleeping in tents or cars, or staying in substandard conditions like abandoned farm buildings or sheds.

However, the generous donation from Shifflet is a reminder that even small acts of kindness can have a big impact. With support from community members like Shifflet, organizations like DeSoto Cares Homeless Services can continue to work towards ending rural homelessness and providing hope for those who need it most.
